Greatness of Hazrat Omar (R)

You must have heard the name of Hazrat Omar (R) .He was the second Caliph of Islam. His nobility and justice are known to all.As a Muslim ruler his greatness and justice spread all over the world.

The second Caliph Hazrat Omar (R) often went to out at night to see the condition of his country man.One night he was passing by the house of a window. The window had four children. They were crying for food. The window pretented as if she were cooking food but boiling only water. Because there was no food in her house.

The Caliph reached the house and knocked at the door.The window opened the door.He asked her why the children were crying.She replied that getting nothing to eat they were crying. She also told him that she was pretending to cook food and waiting for them to make them fall asleep. But she had filled the pot with some water. The Caliph Omar (R) become shocked and told the window not to worry. He also said that he would come back.

The kind Caliph rushed to the Baitulmal and brought out a sack of flour.It was surprising to note that the Caliph himself put the sack on his shoulder and started for the widow's house. seeing this his servant came forward. He requested the Caliph that he must  carry that sack.Omar (R) passionately asked his servant if he would carry his burden on the Day of Judgement.

 The Caliph went back to the widow's house with the sack of flour.The children were very glad to have a nice meal . They cried no more and went to bed quite happily.The Caliph then asked the old woman if she had none else in the world.The woman told the Caliph that her husband had kied in the war .He could leave them no money or no property.So they were in great distress.They had to starve if she failed to get anything for them to eat.

Hazrat Omar (R) became really very sorry to hear that sad story. So in reply he told her that he would speak to the Caliph about her. And then the Caliph would give her surely an allowance very month. Saying that he left them. He did not tell the widow that he himself was the Caliph.
